National Safety Council to Honor Kenny Construction Company Leaders

Itasca, IL - The National Safety Council announced today that it will present its 2003 Green Cross for Safety Medal to the five principal owners and officers of Kenny Construction Company - John E. Kenny Jr., Patrick B. Kenny, James C. Kenny, Philip B. Kenny and Joan Kenny-Rose. The Green Cross for Safety Medal will be presented on June 30, 2003 at a fundraising gala in Chicago. The Kennys are the first construction industry executives to receive the honor.

Kenny Construction Company, based in the Chicago suburb of Wheeling, Il., has been a leader in landmark construction projects for 75 years. The company is involved in major construction projects that include tunnels, subways, airports, stadiums, buildings, hotels, power plants, mass transit, bridges and highways.

"The Kennys have demonstrated a commitment to building a culture that recognizes worker safety and health as a core value of the company. They have put in place safety policies and practices that demonstrate that value and that can serve as a model for the entire construction industry. The bottom line of their leadership is significant reductions in the injury rates of Kenny Construction workers and sub-contractors."

The Green Cross for Safety Medal award was established in 1999 to recognize a chief executive officer, president, or other high-level operating official of an organization that has distinguished itself over a period of years for outstanding achievements in workplace and off-the-job safety and health, community service, environmental stewardship and responsible citizenship. Previous honorees are Richard M. Wardrop, Jr., Chairman and CEO of AK Steel Corp.; Craig R. Barrett, President and CEO of Intel Corp.; and Gregory M. Swienton, President and CEO of Ryder System, Inc.

The National Safety Council (NSC) is a not-for-profit, nongovernmental, international public service organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health. Members of NSC include more than 37,500 businesses, labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups and individuals. Founded in 1913, and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1953, the primary focus of the NSC is preventing injuries on highways and in homes, workplaces and communities.
