TAYLOR STREET RAMPS
This project consisted of constructing a four span bridge on 80’ deep caissons and two adjacent ramps downtown Chicago, IL next to METRA and BNSF tracks and adjacent to Northern Trust.
This bridge is the first stage of a major viaduct to extend Taylor Street from Canal over to Clark Street over railroad tracks and the Chicago River.
The bridge project was built in less than six months starting in early January and going from a major flooded job site to having piers and ramps in operation in less than three months. The project was delayed due to utility interferences and coordination with a major commercial building project. Despite a major water main break, permit delays and utility interferences, the project was finalized on time.
The project called for 5 major piers supported on 6’ diameter, 80’ deep caissons drilled into the rock and the construction of a composite deck with a latex overlay. Adjacent ramps were built to facilitate access to all parties while the construction was underway.
