JEFFERSON PARK

OWNER: Metra
LOCATION: Chicago, IL.

Kenny Construction Company provided construction administration services for the Jefferson Park Station on the Union Pacific Northwest Line in Chicago Illinois.

The work included the construction of an enclosed ADA accessible ramp to the platform elevation, reconstruction of the inbound and outbound station houses, and reconstruction of the outbound platform stair enclosure.  The entrance to the ADA accessible ramp is through the CTA pedestrian tunnel at the Jefferson Park Terminal.

The project required close coordination with the CTA, Union Pacific, and local community groups.  The project also had restricted site accessibility and work restrictions which had to be resolved in order to provide conditions which would allow the construction to proceed as efficiently as possible.  The Kenny team worked with the contractor, Metra and the Union Pacific to develop a resolution to improve site access and allow the construction work on the ADA ramp to proceed.  The resolution for the site access included negotiating with a local merchant to rent a portion of their property to allow the construction of a ramp using reinforced earth walls.  Once the ramp was completed a weekend track outage was scheduled with the Union Pacific to allow the construction of the permanent sheet piling wall needed to construct the foundation for the inbound station house which encloses the ADA accessible ramp.

The project was completed in October of 2006, the ADA ramp, inbound and outbound station houses are were opened during the first quarter of 2006.
