CTA CAPITAL PROJECTS
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is implementing its Capital Construction Program to bring the CTA’s transit infrastructure into a state of good repair and expand its system capacity. Currently, the program consists of approximately 60 projects located throughout the CTA’s transit system. In 2005, the CTA selected Chicago Transit Partners (CTP) to provide program management for the project. CTP is a joint venture between Kenny Construction, DMJM Harris and CTE Engineers. The value of the current projects in the Capital Program is approximately $2 billion, featuring several types of construction projects including:
- Bus passenger facility renewal
- Bus garage reconstruction and system improvements
- Rail passenger station renewal and expansion
- Signage replacement
- Track and structure renewal, rehabilitation, replacement, and upgrade
- Train signal replacement and upgrade.
Kenny personnel are currently leading the project implementation group, which functions as the oversight managers and coordinators for CTA assigned construction projects. The implementation group oversees the CTA selected Construction Managers and is responsible for providing support to the CTA on any claims and changes during the course of the construction projects. The implementation group also supports the CTA in meeting and coordinating with local community groups, City, State and Federal organizations as they relate to the construction projects. The Implementation Group works with the CTA to keep all concerned groups or agencies informed on the status of the ongoing CTA Capital Construction Projects.
Kenny personnel are also working in the Program Controls Group of CTP providing estimating and scheduling services. The estimators are responsible for the review and validation of construction and project level estimates prepared by the design consultants as part of their design submissions. They also support the Implementation Group reviewing construction project changes and claim costs. The schedulers monitor and track the overall program schedule from project planning through design, construction and project close out. The schedulers provide schedule status, forecast, and recommendations regarding the program schedule for inclusion in the CTA’s monthly project reports.
