THE GLEN CLUB
Kenny oversaw construction of The Glen Club, a 48,000 square-foot golf course club-house, in a joint venture with Altounian Builders, Inc. The two companies were able to propose a number of value engineering ideas, which resulted in substantial savings to the owner and allowed the project to proceed on schedule.
The Clubhouse was built adjacent to and concurrently with a championship 18-hole golf course, which houses the Illinois Professional Golfer’s Association. The Glen Club’s three floors incorporate 21 hotel suites, a banquet hall, restaurant and bar, as well as a pro shop, locker rooms, golf cart storage area and golf hall of fame.
The Clubhouse layout is unique because it has an atrium and four wings, making it look like a cross from above.
Another unique characteristic of the Glen Club is the high-end finishes used, including high-grade carpeting, vinyl and fabric wall coverings, wood trim and decorative molding.
The frame is primarily cast-in-place concrete with some structural steel and the exterior is brick veneer with a metal stud and sheathing backup. The roof is asphalt shingle.
Crews constructed three outbuildings on site: a halfway shelter at the ninth hole that has restrooms and a small concession stand, a pump house for the golf course irrigation system, and a maintenance building. The three structures have exteriors similar to that of the lodge.
The project was successfully completed in June 2001.
