1600 MUSEUM PARK

1600 Museum Park is a 32 story residential high-rise located at 1629 S. Prairie Avenue.  There are 25 floors of residential units stacked on top of 8 floors of enclosed parking levels.  The building contains 275 condominium units, and 360 parking spaces.  The support system for the structure is a unique mix of both belled and rock caissons, which extend approximately 90' below grade.

The structure is a post-tensioned concrete frame, and has a two level deep basement.  The unique logistical challenge required for the foundation installation at this location is that the building is immediately adjacent to an active railroad embankment, used both by Amtrak passenger trains and Canadian National freight trains.  An extensive earth retention system has been provided to allow for a safe excavation and a phased installation of the 30' deep concrete foundation, while maintaining the integrity of the neighboring rail lines.

The project commenced in December of 2006, and the overall schedule duration is 27 months.  Work is currently in the excavation and concrete foundation phase.

This building will be another one of the many successful projects that KCC has constructed for the Enterprise Companies in the Museum Park/Central Station area of the South Loop.
